Chicago Man Arrested for Allegedly Targeting Obama With HIV-Infected Blood

A man from President Obama’s hometown of Chicago has been arrested for allegedly sending Obama and his staff envelopes containing HIV-infected blood, in the hopes of killing or harming them.
It’s only the second time ever that HIV-infected blood has been sent with malicious intent through the U.S. mail system, a spokesman for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said. Read the rest of this entry »

Bernanke Sees 2010 Recovery ‘Only If’ Banks Stabilize

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke said the U.S. economy is in a “severe” contraction, and warned the recession may last into 2010 unless policy makers can stabilize the financial system.
“If actions taken by the administration, the Congress, and the Federal Reserve are successful in restoring some measure of financial stability — and only if that is the case, in my view – - there is a reasonable prospect that the current recession will end in 2009 and that 2010 will be a year of recovery,” Bernanke said in remarks to the Senate Banking Committee in Washington.

Teeth could be repaired or regrown

Scientists believe they have found a way to grow teeth in the laboratory, a discovery that could put an end to fillings and dentures.
The US team from Oregon have located the gene responsible for the growth of enamel, the hard outer layer of teeth which cannot grow back naturally.

Ben Bernanke, head of the Federal Reserve, testifying before the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee in Washington on Tuesday.
US Federal Reserve chief Ben Bernanke has warned Congress that without the right policies from the government, the US recession could last into 2010.

Nasa announces technical failure shortly after blast-off

Nasa’s first dedicated mission to measure carbon dioxide from space has failed following a rocket malfunction.

Haleigh Cummings’ little brother told police a man dressed all in black snuck into her room and snatched the 5-year-old Florida girl from her bed, a TV news Web site reported.

Excessive use of consoles may cause physical problems

A new skin disorder caused by use of games consoles has been identified by skin specialists.
The condition, dubbed PlayStation palmar hidradenitis, is described in the British Journal of Dermatology.
Researchers outline the case of a 12-year-old girl who attended a Swiss hospital with intensely painful sores on the palms of her hands.
