NEW YORK —  The 82nd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade began winding its way through Manhattan streets under sunny skies on Thursday, as thousands of marchers carried giant balloons past throngs of people celebrating the U.S. harvest holiday.
About 3.5 million spectators were expected to view the 82nd annual parade in person Thursday, with 50 million more watching on television, as handlers lead traditional giant balloons up the 2.5-mile route from Central Park to Herald Square, in front of Macy’s flagship department store. US economic aid adds up to $7 trillion

The latest figures have revealed that the US government is ready to inject up to USD 7 trillion of taxpayer money into the slumping economy.

According to a chart published on Wednesday the US Treasury, the Federal Reserve, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) are collectively committing over USD 7 trillion in aid to ailing financial institutions.

Iraqi Parliament passes US security pact

pirhayati20081127172121656Iraqi Parliament has approved by majority vote a security pact between Baghdad and Washington that calls for US troops withdrawal by 2011. Parliament speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani said Thursday an overwhelming majority of the lawmakers who attended the session voted in favor of the pact.

The agreement was passed on Thursday with 144 of the 198 lawmakers present voting in favor. A total of 35 other lawmakers also voted against the agreement.
