I have another gripe that I would like to voice that pertains to our “News of the Day”… our new President… and this has bothered me from day one… Why is it that Obama is, and always has been, continuously referred to as African American or Black? This is factually incorrect. This description only PARTIALLY describes him.
Barack Obama is BIRACIAL at the very least. It seems to me that anyone who refers to him in this exclusive way, as Black,  which includes just about EVERYONE.. especially the media,  is guilty of defining/ judging a person by the color of their skin. Isn’t this what we are supposed to be fighting against? It is promoting that incorrect practice of defining a book by it’s cover. That appearance is what defines a person. Barack Obama is just as much ‘white’ as he is ‘black’ as far as DNA goes.
I know that he calls himself a black man and that is his choice but again, factually, this isn’t so. He is completely dismissing 50% of his ancestory including the mother who carried him in her womb and the grandparents who raised him!!  His BLOOD relatives! I just don’t get it. And with society’s COMMON practice and superficial need of defining and categorizing and labeling people, we are missing out on a great opportunity here… if we could refer to Obama as he really is… Biracial…it would actually be more beneficial to our country and the issue of race as a whole… Barack is a symbol of two races COMING TOGETHER!   Barack Obama is a symbol of OUR future!  America’s future.  Instead he is used as a reminder of the individuality of the two races and in a very incorrect way.
Watching the tears rolling down the faces of  Black Americans with Obama’s election has been very touching and I understand that I can never really know how they must feel but at the same time, to me, it has been kind of bitter sweet… because he is ONLY half black… if his heritage was fully African American , I would have cherished this time in history a lot more.   So, for me, while this is a huge step forward for our country,  I also feel that we are taking a little step back at the same time.   I see a  golden opportunity that has been missed by not recognizing the TRUE historical and beneficial event that has happened in our country and what it really signifies.  To me, it shows that we still have a long way to go, the dividing walls are still in tact in the minds of society.

right on, kay! somewhere back in our snl posts i brought up the same point. most people are forgetting he is white as well as african american. this can also signify that we have come a long way, electing our first biracial president. so there’s hope. maybe in our lifetime there will be a woman president? who knows!

This IS a wonderful post!!!! I love it! I think it really hits home with us here. I wish more Americans took note! He represents the two races that are the extreme opposites of all the color of peoples skin. Thus representing ALL the color of people, white, black, and all inbetween as well! I don’t know if that makes sence to anyone else how I worded this comment, but it does to me!

Lawman please do add that pick! Dorian will love it, and if she doesn’t she can delete it and add another…or leave it as is! It deserves to be read over and over AND over!!!

dorian you would tell me or at least remove it if you didn’t like the pic wouldn’t you?don’t want to piss you off (at least not about adding a pic lol)if you don’t like it just delete it.this is a great post girl!

uh lawman – this is kay’s post, and the picture’s great!

  9. Oh to the wire! As if there are polar opposites of the co;our of peoples’ skin. White folk have never had to claim any president as theirs have they? It’s the look: someone who looks like him can be president, and he hasn’t forgotten as haven’t so many that what you looked like used to be the most important thing.
As he said no taxi driver ever said oh look there’s a mixed race person: I won’t pick them up……oh look I am debating. I really do hope he comes through for you all though: you people here deserve it.

very true indeed….but isnt there this one song that says “my president is black…” or something like that! ahahahahahaha i guess the song wouldnt sound as good saying “my president is half black and half white…”

True OTA… this story (Obama’s election) wouldn’t be as exciting if he was accurately described… the media has played a major part in this… it’s a more exciting story if Obama is “Black”, it’s a more exciting (and emotional) inauguration if Obama is “Black”, everything is more story worthy when Obama is “Black”. What is troubling is that Americans accepted this so easily. Even I was being worn down after awhile.. but then I realized what a missed opportunity this actually is. This is a great example of how truth is always the better way to go.

Hey, someone should write a song about this and post it on Youtube… a song that talks about the true historical and symbolic event of Obama’s election… that he symbolizes the unification of America and how in the same way, America symbolizes the unification of the world… America is the melting pot of the world. I’d do it but I can’t write.
