Palin says Obama’s health care plan is ‘evil’

By MARK THIESSEN, Associated Press Writer Mark Thiessen, Associated Press Writer Sat Aug 8, 4:07 am ET

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin called President Barack Obama‘s health plan “downright evil” Friday in her first online comments since leaving office, saying in a Facebook posting that he would create a “death panel” that would deny care to the neediest Americans.

“The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s ‘death panel’ so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their ‘level of productivity in society,’ whether they are worthy of health care,” the former Republican vice presidential candidate wrote.

“Such a system is downright evil,” Palin wrote on her page, which has nearly 700,000 supporters. She encouraged her supporters to be engaged in the debate.

The claim that the Democratic health care bills would encourage euthanasia has been circulating on the Internet for weeks and has been echoed by some Republican leaders. Democrats from Obama on down have dismissed it as a distortion. The nonpartisan group FactCheck.org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania says the claim is false.

The allegation appears to be based on a provision of the House bill that would require Medicare to pay for end-of-life counseling sessions, on a voluntary basis, for beneficiaries who want the service. Medicare already covers hospice care. And legislation passed by Congress in 1990 requires that patients be asked if they have a living will.

Obama addressed the controversy during a July 28 AARP-sponsored town hall.

“Nobody is going to be forcing you to make a set of decisions on end-of-life care based on some bureaucratic law in Washington,” he said.

An e-mail sent to Palin’s spokeswoman to confirm authorship of the Facebook posting was not immediately returned Friday. There was no immediate reply to phone messages left late Friday with the White House and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office seeking comment on Palin’s remarks.

Republican criticism has also included claims that the reform plans will lead to rationing, or the government determining which medical procedures a patient can have.

However, millions of Americans already face rationing, as insurance companies rule on procedures they will cover. Denying coverage for certain procedures might increase under proposals to have a government-appointed agency identify medicines and procedures best suited for various conditions.

Palin resigned as Alaska governor on July 26 with nearly 18 months left in her term. She cited not only the numerous ethics complaints that had been filed against her also her wish not to be a lame duck after the first-term governor decided not to seek re-election next year.

Palin, popular with conservatives in the Republican party, has said she wants to build a right-of-center coalition, and there is speculation she will seek the presidency in 2012. In the two weeks since she resigned, Palin has made only one public appearance, giving a Second Amendment rights speech last Saturday before a gun owners group in Anchorage.

Palin or her aides post notes on her Facebook account about once or twice a week, usually to set out policy statements, issue news releases or refute rumors circulating on the Internet.

Palin also has been largely silent before Friday’s Facebook post. She was a voracious user of the social networking site Twitter, and promised to keep her supporters updated with a new private account after she left office. But that hasn’t happened, leaving some of her fans begging for updates in the past two weeks.

  1. Palin is a crackpot and person hell bent on misconstruing the facts to further her cause. Obviously she wouldn’t be worth a damn as a president either since she obviously couldn’t handle the pressure as a Governor.

if palin had become vice president, it wouldn’t be long before the whole country had Down’s Syndrome.

palin’s quitting her job as governor of alaska for whatever other priorities she may have, shows that she doesn’t have staying power.

I actually read the bills that get proposed about this subject. As the government already pays for my healthcare I wanted to know if a universal system would actually harm me. Since I get VA healthcare, I get to go to the doctor regularly. I have reread the proposal carefully, i do not see anything written that will affect Trig Palin. If Sarah Palin is watching this blog, which I highly doubt, goto the following websites.

The heath reform site actually has a lot of good stuff on it the denied coverage article has to do with the current systems problems. (Please do not let the obvious noviceness of the webpage designer fool you. It has some good information. Granted it has a lot of links to the whitehouse.gov but its okay.)

Both of these things are good information sources, as they actually site sources of information. Many other sites I have seen about this issue is just regurgitated information from Hannity or another political entertainer. Let’s face it Hannity is not bipartisan, and like all faux news anchors, he knows how to spin facts to make it look like he wants it to look. Meaning he will take something completely out of context, without looking to see the meaning of the whole portion of the bill or whatever. In my opinion Hannity and these other spin doctor’s are hacks. Yes, I am also including the Liberal spin doctor’s as well. They are all hacks and try to spin truth to fit their own personal agenda. Which is one of the reason’s we started this site, so all sides of the facts and opinions can be seen. Anyway I am steering this boat back on course, let’s go back on topic.

I have uploaded a pdf of the current health care reform bill on this website. This bill is labeled as “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009’’. This is not light reading and I am putting it out there because it is kind of hard to find a full bill that congress reads. Whether it is the government’s failure to structure their website so citizens can find it, or like in the case of some of former President Bush’s decisions, assuming that the public will not read bills that will affect them it is unsure. It is a fact that getting any information about laws and bills to be passed is like getting blood from a turnip. This has been true up to the Freedom of Information act update, which states that if it is not a matter of national security the government than the government must provide documentation to the citizen requesting the information. That bill was actually drawn up in 1966. There has been many reforms up to current date. In 1996 it was expanded to include the then newly public internet/world wide web. Bush did some reforms to it as we know. One of which actually limited the public knowledge, and the other made it hard for non-journalists to actually obtain the information they sought. In fact before President Obama’s repealled some of the provisions on Bush’s limitations, regarding the 9/11/2001 repression, it was downright impossible. Which is where the government is controlling the media conspiracy theory gets some validation. The FOIA has gone through two or three repressions under Reagan. President Clinton, however expanded the FOIA which overturned Reagan’s ammendments. Do we see a pattern in the FOIA, which gives us the right to request information from the government and get it? Hopefully Obama will catch the government up and give easier access to non-national security issues, such as laws and bills, congress session minutes (the only thing actually easily available through the library of congress.), as well as anything that belongs in the citizen’s view. Maybe because I am a child of the Cold War, but I do not believe that intelligence and law enforcement belongs in the citizen’s view. The main reason why I think that is the more we know about our anti-insurgancy, anti-terrorism, and other issues dealing with protecting our borders from foreign invader’s wishing to do American’s harm, is because if the public knows about it so does those that wish to hurt our civilian population. Also as seen with the CIA interrogation fiasco, the citizen’s would limit these organizations that we rely on to protect us and keep us safe. I am sorry for making this comment which was supposed to give more information in support to this article, becoming a post in itself. When I realized it I decided I was too lazy to make this rant into a post.

Anyway for your reading (definitely not light reading) pleasure the Health Care reform bill:

i dont understand why palin is still being thrown in with the wolves! she has her opinion she has no power in this country…liberals still fear her! HA none of you will admit this because you know deep down inside that she is a threat to the liberal values you still have. As i am typing this i am listening to keith olberman and i sense no intelligence in his speech. he provides no stats of his own he is just fueling the liberal fire against palin. he is pure comedy and to just throw mud at ppl. He mentioned nothing from the bill just went on a rant off of what palin was saying. His hatred of palin is as big as his lack of reporting…pity he would be funny if he took out the hate and disdain in his annoyingly deep voice…now i am off to read e_e’s stuff be back soon…hopefully
