These scores tell me I didn’t answer right

Posted by 1minionsopinion on November 16, 2009

I feel gyped on this O.C.E.A.N. personality test.

Some tweaking required to get my readout looking readable.

Openness to Experience/Intellect: High scorers tend to be original, creative, curious, complex; Low scorers tend to be conventional, down to earth, narrow interests, uncreative.

You typically don’t seek out new experiences. (Your percentile: 59)

Well, I’m working on that at least. That’s what the whole Freethinkers thing is about. Get out, do something different and meet new people.

Conscientiousness: High scorers tend to be reliable, well-organized, self-disciplined, careful; Low scorers tend to be disorganized, undependable, negligent.

You tend to do things somewhat haphazardly. (Your percentile: 35)

Yeah, I’ll buy that.

Extraversion: High scorers tend to be sociable, friendly, fun loving, talkative; Low scorers tend to be introverted, reserved, inhibited, quiet.

You tend to shy away from social situations. (Your percentile: 27)

And again, I’m working on it. I do spend too much time alone.

Agreeableness: High scorers tend to be good natured, sympathetic, forgiving, courteous; Low scorers tend to be critical, rude, harsh, callous.

You find it easy to express irritation with others. (Your percentile: 38)

This is the one that bugs me, but more because it’s true, I suppose. But I am good natured and courteous and I do have sympathy and some capacity of forgiveness. Just not enough, apparently.

Neuroticism: High scorers tend to be nervous, high-strung, insecure, worrying; Low scorers tend to be calm, relaxed, secure, hardy.

You are generally relaxed. (Your percentile: 37)

In this case a low score seems to be good. Awesome.

I’ve done better tests, but this was at least a quick one.

I expanded on the idea in my own blog, going through each one and I guess I wind up agreeing after all. But how much do results like this reflect who you are, and how much is just because of how the questions get asked? It was a judgement call on more than a few of them. On another day, in a different mood; spilled milk is joy for the cats, assuming they’ll let you know the offering pleases them…

Well, here’s mine… as I said on the other post… I had an open mind (ironically) towards this test but found out (again ironically) that this test is not based on open mindedness as per the “politcally liberal” question.

    Openness to Experience/Intellect

High scorers tend to be original, creative, curious, complex; Low scorers tend to be conventional, down to earth, narrow interests, uncreative.
You prefer traditional and familiar experiences. (Your percentile: 12)

    Conscientiousness

High scorers tend to be reliable, well-organized, self-disciplined, careful; Low scorers tend to be disorganized, undependable, negligent.
You probably have a messy desk! (Your percentile: 8)

    Extraversion

High scorers tend to be sociable, friendly, fun loving, talkative; Low scorers tend to be introverted, reserved, inhibited, quiet.
You probably enjoy spending quiet time alone. (Your percentile: 12)

    Agreeableness

High scorers tend to be good natured, sympathetic, forgiving, courteous; Low scorers tend to be critical, rude, harsh, callous.
You find it easy to criticize others. (Your percentile: 4)

    Neuroticism

High scorers tend to be nervous, high-strung, insecure, worrying; Low scorers tend to be calm, relaxed, secure, hardy.

  21. Actually Kay your scores seem to describe you well. Conservatives are narrow-minded and fearful of change. Those are two characteristics of being conservative. It is part of what it means. Being fearful of change means you are NOT open-minded even though you want to think that you are. The politically liberal question is a good litmus test to see whether or not you are closed-minded. Conservatives ARE closed-minded. It’s who they are. Nothing wrong or bad about it, unless one lets conservatives dictate policy for EVERYONE to be the same old way they are comfortable with.

TBG… you are right, I don’t like change too often, but that doesn’t also make me narrow minded. That is narrow mindedness on your part. Narrow mindedness means not being able to see things from (or consider) another’s point of view. I don’t have a problem with that for the most part.. I pride myself on being able to do that.

You don’t seem to comprehend the most common differences between liberals and conservatives… conservatives choose to live according to God’s will… liberals choose to ignore God’s will. That has NOTHING to do with open mindedness. It has to do with moral choices.

Political liberals think it’s okay to kill the unborn… and according to that test those that don’t are therefore narrow minded??? That’s ridiculous and very LIBERALY biased.

  24. Kay, our debates demonstrate that you DO have difficulty seeing things from other points of view. I could probably nail your viewpoint to your satisfaction, but when you have tried to express what you THOUGHT I said back to me with a comment, you were frequently very wrong, sometimes even thinking I said the OPPOSITE of what was actually said.

Like Dorian said though, we need you the way you are.

  25. That was arrgance on my part, to assume I can understand your point of view completely. What I meant was that on SOME subjects I understand where you’re coming from and I have good reaon to believe you would agree with my assessment of your position, while when you try to express where you THINK I’m coming from, you’re dead wrong. That’s just the bottom line.

  26. btw, I score as an open minded loner, BUT I am VERY messy and I do worry a lot even though I know I don’t need to.

  27. I disagree with your definition of conservatives versus liberals. There are MANY conservatives who seem to completely ignore God’s will. All they seem to care about is self-aggrandizement, regardless of the consequences to others or to the environment. There are MANY liberals who try to help others even if it means they themselves are not going to get rich off of it, practicing the ideals of Christ.

In US government of the past few decades the difference seems to be that conservatives favor big business and say screw the poor and the environment. Liberals want those who can afford to help others pay their fair share to do so, while conservatives say screw that, it’s my money.

It is my opinion that in fact, many LIBERALS are far closer to the teachings of Christ than many conservatives.

  28. Also, I am not a liberal. I lean that way, but according to a detailed test of my political position I took in 2008, I am a “moderate centrist” just left of center. This makes sense, as the middle way is also my philosophical position.

  30. Yes, a big difference between liberals and conservatives comes down to moral choices. Liberals tend to favor what is best for everyone and for the planet, not just what is personally best for their own self-aggrandizement. Conservatives tend to think of their own wallets first and foremost. It’s funny that the religious right has aligned itself with the party that favors big business rather than the party that favors the poor and disadvantaged. Hmmm, I wonder which party is closer to the teachings of Jesus, really now?

  31. In other words, conservatives claim to follow Christ but actually just take care of their own ego selves. Liberals are sometimes atheists but actually follow Christ’s advice more on how to treat others.

  32. I note Kay uses abortion as her defining issue between conservatives and liberals. Well, some conservatives aren’t against abortion, and not all liberals are for it either.

I don’t think anyone unless they’re truly sick approves of abortion, but some see it as acceptable in certain cases such as rape or incest at least. I am male, but if I were a female I would be angry at being forced to carry to term a baby that came from being raped. Also, if there are any genetic components to bad behavior, it’s not doing the race any favor to pass on those genes to future generations.

It is pretty funny Kay that you claim to pride yourself on your ability to accurately understand other people’s points of view that differ from your own, when I have noticed from personal experience that you’re not as good at that as you think you are. Yep, your scores are accurate, including the closed minded bit. The test doesn’t have a “liberal” bias. That just seems to be your standard complaint against anything you don’t like. The truth hurts, doesn’t it?
