Sarah Palin on Climate Change and “agenda-driven science”

Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin continues to make her voice heard across the political spectrum and has jumped into the fray of climate science. With the release of thousands of damaging emails from the world’s top climate scientists and the United Nations Climate Change Conference beginning in Copenhagen, Palin reminded politicians, “Policy should be based on sound science, not snake oil.”

Sarah sounds off on the collusion among scientists and  politicians to bring about legislative action on the global warming conspiracy theory fabricated by the twisted, poisoned minds of the liberals. d9

In a Facebook posting last Thursday and a guest editorial in the Washington Post today, Palin questions the actions of the scientists involved in the Climategate email scandal. She points to the damaging messages that allude to collusion among the scientists to manipulate and withhold data and silence dissent from others that hold evidence contrary to the anthropogenic global warming theory.

The furor over the emails continues to grow and Palin summarizes the concerns saying, “The leaked e-mails involved in Climategate expose the unscientific behavior of leading climate scientists who deliberately destroyed records to block information requests, manipulated data to “hide the decline” in global temperatures, and conspired to silence the critics of man-made global warming.”

She questions the objectivity of the scientists involved in light of the new revelations and warns that there are too many unanswered questions about climate change science, particularly in the wake of Climategate. The emails show that the scientists were hardly impartial judges of the data and directly engaged in political-type behavior. “The revelation of appalling actions by so-called climate change experts allows the American public to finally understand the concerns so many of us have articulated on this issue,” Palin said in the Post.

With the climate summit kicking off this week in Copenhagen and President Barack Obama expected to attend the closing days, Palin exhorts the president to step back and take another look at the issues. “Policy decisions require real science and real solutions, not junk science and doomsday scare tactics pushed by an environmental priesthood that capitalizes on the public’s worry,” she wrote.

Palin comes to the table with a strong record of being able to walk the line between energy security and environmental policy when she was governor of Alaska. Some might consider her a ‘climate change denier’ but she is quick to remind people that she is not. Palin said, “That’s not to say I deny the reality of some changes in climate — far from it. I saw the impact of changing weather patterns firsthand while serving as governor of our only Arctic state.”

She took action by creating a sub-cabinet in 2007 to specifically deal with the threat of climate change and to implement a comprehensive strategy for the state. The goal of that cabinet is to “recommend common-sense policies to respond to the coastal erosion, thawing permafrost and retreating sea ice that affect Alaska’s communities and infrastructure.”

Palin challenges President Obama to refuse to attend the Copenhagen conference and reject any sort of cap and trade program. The proposed legislation, now sitting stalled in the Senate, would establish a carbon trading scheme and likely lead to much higher energy prices for consumers, something which the president himself admitted.

Many view cap and trade as a system that will damage the economy and in the end, do nothing to curb carbon dioxide emissions. Even James Hansen, head of NASA’s Goddard Institute of Space Studies and a leader in advancing the manmade climate change theory, has said governments that promise emissions reductions via cap and trade are “lying through their teeth.”

The former governor writes, “Whatever deal he [Obama] gets, it will be no deal for the American people. What Obama really hopes to bring home from Copenhagen is more pressure to pass the Democrats’ cap-and-tax proposal. This is a political move. The last thing America needs is misguided legislation that will raise taxes and cost jobs — particularly when the push for such legislation rests on agenda-driven science.”
