Sarah Palin on Climate Change and “agenda-driven science”

Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin continues to make her voice heard across the political spectrum and has jumped into the fray of climate science. With the release of thousands of damaging emails from the world’s top climate scientists and the United Nations Climate Change Conference beginning in Copenhagen, Palin reminded politicians, “Policy should be based on sound science, not snake oil.”

Sarah sounds off on the collusion among scientists and  politicians to bring about legislative action on the global warming conspiracy theory fabricated by the twisted, poisoned minds of the liberals. d9

In a Facebook posting last Thursday and a guest editorial in the Washington Post today, Palin questions the actions of the scientists involved in the Climategate email scandal. She points to the damaging messages that allude to collusion among the scientists to manipulate and withhold data and silence dissent from others that hold evidence contrary to the anthropogenic global warming theory.

The furor over the emails continues to grow and Palin summarizes the concerns saying, “The leaked e-mails involved in Climategate expose the unscientific behavior of leading climate scientists who deliberately destroyed records to block information requests, manipulated data to “hide the decline” in global temperatures, and conspired to silence the critics of man-made global warming.”

She questions the objectivity of the scientists involved in light of the new revelations and warns that there are too many unanswered questions about climate change science, particularly in the wake of Climategate. The emails show that the scientists were hardly impartial judges of the data and directly engaged in political-type behavior. “The revelation of appalling actions by so-called climate change experts allows the American public to finally understand the concerns so many of us have articulated on this issue,” Palin said in the Post.

With the climate summit kicking off this week in Copenhagen and President Barack Obama expected to attend the closing days, Palin exhorts the president to step back and take another look at the issues. “Policy decisions require real science and real solutions, not junk science and doomsday scare tactics pushed by an environmental priesthood that capitalizes on the public’s worry,” she wrote.

Palin comes to the table with a strong record of being able to walk the line between energy security and environmental policy when she was governor of Alaska. Some might consider her a ‘climate change denier’ but she is quick to remind people that she is not. Palin said, “That’s not to say I deny the reality of some changes in climate — far from it. I saw the impact of changing weather patterns firsthand while serving as governor of our only Arctic state.”

She took action by creating a sub-cabinet in 2007 to specifically deal with the threat of climate change and to implement a comprehensive strategy for the state. The goal of that cabinet is to “recommend common-sense policies to respond to the coastal erosion, thawing permafrost and retreating sea ice that affect Alaska’s communities and infrastructure.”

Palin challenges President Obama to refuse to attend the Copenhagen conference and reject any sort of cap and trade program. The proposed legislation, now sitting stalled in the Senate, would establish a carbon trading scheme and likely lead to much higher energy prices for consumers, something which the president himself admitted.

Many view cap and trade as a system that will damage the economy and in the end, do nothing to curb carbon dioxide emissions. Even James Hansen, head of NASA’s Goddard Institute of Space Studies and a leader in advancing the manmade climate change theory, has said governments that promise emissions reductions via cap and trade are “lying through their teeth.”

The former governor writes, “Whatever deal he [Obama] gets, it will be no deal for the American people. What Obama really hopes to bring home from Copenhagen is more pressure to pass the Democrats’ cap-and-tax proposal. This is a political move. The last thing America needs is misguided legislation that will raise taxes and cost jobs — particularly when the push for such legislation rests on agenda-driven science.”

i’ve got to admit sarah is entertaining. as long as she’s not taken seriously. then those that do take her seriously can be entertaining too.
as long as they stay out of government.

Thanks for bringing this up Dorian, although I’m kind of suprised. The liberal agenda at work in the scientific community.. what a suprise. Cap and trade is just another way for the government to gain more control. The dems and liberals got busted big time here. I wonder how much taxpayer’s money was used to pay off these “scientists”.

I have to say in a way “thank goodness” for the blatant arrogance of the left..otherwise they may never have been caught in this instance. And thank goodness for Obama’s arrogance.. it will hopefully prevent many of his agendas from going thru, universal healthcare as one example.

And Sarah Palin isn’t claiming to be a climate expert. She’s just acknowledging the evidence that should require us all to question all “scientific” data by these scientists.

Yeah, lets put the focus on Sarah…

  6. Of course we are all quick to say CRIMINALS are right and the scientists are wrong. Trade and Cap I agree it shouldn’t be done. But to say scientists are covering up a problem is absurd. There is many reasons for certain data to be excluded one of those is not having conclusive data. How do we know these CRIMINALS that hacked all of this sensitive data didn’t rewrite some of the things they leaked? How do we know anything leaked from this Criminal act is even what those scientists said. I love a good conspiracy theory, this one can be debunked very quickly. Global Warming is not that bad? There is a hole in the Ozone layer that is getting bigger due to Carbon Dioxide. The only way to fix our problem is to transition from using fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and various other fuels. To something that comes around more naturally. In the states that have more farms than cities, they are doing it with Methane or Natural Gas powered vehicles. These vehicles emit less global warming caused emitions, and they have been around for 10-15 years. It is easy to convert an existing vehicle to this system. Or hydrogen powered cars, which was made in Japan, and these cars are available here. But you have to move to Southern California to actually be able to get fuel for these vehicles. See safer alternatives exist right now, not in the future but now. Petition your State legislator to vote down on the Trade and Cap, and tell them to bring up an alternative. Natural Gas conversion. Natural Gas is cheap, it is renewable as long as we have livestock and garbage. Plus it will cut funding to terrorism.

What I find surprising is that Kay and Sarah Palin would actually support Domestic Terrorism. Hacking among other Computer Crimes, based on the severity and other things, is labeled under Domestic Terrorism. The information stolen and then maybe it was changed or maybe it was not. That does not change it for what it is. The FBI is involved in the Climategate scandal, that tells me that they have a suspect, and he or she is an American. Especially after what happened with Sarah Palin, with the whole e-mail hacking, which she claimed that information was changed.
I question the evidence not Sarah Palin, but the way the evidence was taken and possibly changed. It is not easy to get past the firewalls and proxy servers this Scientific Facility had. I mean the level of skill if this was a blind hack, could also mean that the evidence could have been was tampered with. It is also possible the reason this hacker has yet to be caught is because this person was hired by someone with an agenda.

RealClimate characterizes the e-mail excerpt as follows:

The paper in question is the Mann, Bradley and Hughes (1998) Nature paper on the original multiproxy temperature reconstruction, and the ‘trick’ is just to plot the instrumental records along with reconstruction so that the context of the recent warming is clear. Scientists often use the term “trick” to refer to a “a good way to deal with a problem”, rather than something that is “secret”, and so there is nothing problematic in this at all. As for the ‘decline’, it is well known that Keith Briffa’s maximum latewood tree ring density proxy diverges from the temperature records after 1960 (this is more commonly known as the “divergence problem”–see e.g. the recent discussion in this paper) and has been discussed in the literature since Briffa et al in Nature in 1998 (Nature, 391, 678-682). Those authors have always recommended not using the post-1960 part of their reconstruction, and so while ‘hiding’ is probably a poor choice of words (since it is ‘hidden’ in plain sight), not using the data in the plot is completely appropriate, as is further research to understand why this happens.[40]

Mann explains the trick as simply a concise way of showing the two kinds of data together while still clearly indicating which was which and has denied that there was anything “hidden or inappropriate” about it. His method of combining proxy data had been corroborated by numerous statistical tests and matched thermometer readings taken over the past 150 years.

So yes lets point fingers towards everything but the real problem. Let’s just go into a media inspired frenzy over so-called evidence of a cover-up. Let’s not look at all of the data available or even question the fact that this evidence was collected illegally. So yes let’s just point fingers at the scientists. Let’s not point fingers at the politicians that benefit from this scandal. This information was acquired illegally, and a lot of it was released material. So let’s just let the Media (most of which are dumber than a box of rocks *cough*Hannity*cough*) tell us what this information says instead of looking towards more reputable sources.

MediaCurves.com conducted a study among 314 Americans viewing a news clip on the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. Results found that the majority (72%) indicated that the United States should increase its efforts to prevent and prepare for climate change. After viewing the video, support for the statement that there is scientific evidence that the average temperature on the earth has been rising over the past few decades rose from 60% to 68% among viewers.More in depth results can be seen at:

part of my posting this is because the inevitable political intrigues on just about everything predictably manifested. and sarah palin always makes me chuckle.
    poor poor earth.
politics being dragged into the mix just complicates and delays what must be done to prevent more natural calamities (floods, extreme weather, rising sea levels, melting glaciers, etc…) caused by global warming. this (global warming) has accelerated mainly due to co2 emissions reaching and crossing the earth’s atmospheric threshold. humans are a main contributor to this abuse, via industrialization and everyday pollution. science and technology experts have already come up with natural alternatives and are developing more. it’s up to the world governments to encourage and support use and development of these natural alternatives. we are all too oil-dependent.

We must also look at some facts. The Bush family, very conservative christian very wealthy. George Bush Sr. has controlling stock in Haliburton. The nations top Oil Company. (Jr. is responsible since Haliburton and its subsidaries have the most government contracts. Maybe the ex-CEO turned VP is responsible as well.) Alaska, most of Alaska’s revenue comes from Oil. If we no longer have a dependence on Oil. Which would make the only consumers for Oil based fuel, fisherman and other trade jobs similar. Those are not highly sought after jobs. So of course Sarah Palin is going say that Scientists are lessening the threat. Sure we may lose our ozone layer which would make it impossible for us to go outside during the day. But that is no immediate threat. It will be gone while our great great great grandchildren are alive, let’s let them worry about it. The thing that shields us from the radiation of solar flares, is not something to worry about… Of course there is an agenda in Global Temperature Science. The continuity of the Human race. Sarah Palin also has an agenda in joining in on this. It is very much more selfish than it is upholding “Christian Values”. Of course no one will see this, I know I am going to be slandered, because I claim Sarah Palin has something to gain by staying in the media spotlight. The Ugly truth is she does.

  13. and hey E_E, you realize I’m sure how everything is interconnected. It’s only natural in any conversation of any length that the subject branches off to other topics. Sometimes it comes back to the original topic, sometimes not. I don’t really want to go back to a thread that is several weeks or months old just because it is specific to where the conversation has turned, but if you insist…whatever.

e.g. my dog is an australian cattle dog, a blue heeler. imo that breed is the smartest breed blah blah blah…climate change. if that’s not done, digresser will be escorted to a post more relevant to his or her comment. hehe just having fun here….

  17. TBG: Its not that I don’t enjoy the topic and I understand the interconnectedness. But I also know a bait comment when I see it. (I should know as I post many.) And I also see where something is headed. A Cherokee parable (I heard it in a werewolf movie called war wolves.) turns into a debate about Mormonism. A Church and State topic turns into Science vs. Religion? I’m all for it, but I said what I said because in the spirit of fairness to the author. If the author allowed said discussion to be changed to that I would have no problem. But, when i say Management I mean a group of people(more than one) not just one person.

  19. So the authors have complained about topics being changed, or more than one member of management has? I’m confused…(climate change). I mean, it is relevant to discuss evolution or abortion in any context about Sarah Palin for example (Sarah Palin) because those are issues with which she is linked because of her extreme wacko nutjob right wing fringe extremist insane irrational belief system that so many people share (climate change).

  23. Also the movie “Holes in Heaven” is a documentary about HAARP. That documentary actually proposes that the HAARP project can actually be damaging the environment. HAARP is a government controlled research facility that may just be doing that. And before anyone points fingers, its not a new thing. Conservative Christian presidents endorsed this project to be used as a weapon against the Soviet threat. There is no longer a soviet threat it moves on to Terrorist threat. And when there is no Terrorist threat, there will be other threats. While this technology could help humanity, it is used to help destroy it. All organized and directed by the Conservative Christian government for over twenty years.
