Gov Arnold Schwarzenegger was joined in the move by the attorney general and San Francisco city

Schwarzenegger calls for same-sex weddings to resume

California’s governor and attorney general have asked a US federal judge to allow same-sex couples to wed pending an appeal against his rejection of the state’s same-sex marriage ban.

Backers of the ban had asked for a delay while the appeal was considered.

The judge ruled that the ban, known as Proposition 8, was unconstitutional.

“The public interest is best served by… restoring the right of same-sex couples to marry in California,” wrote a lawyer for Gov Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“Doing so is consistent with California’s long history of treating all people and their relationships with equal dignity and respect,” the lawyer wrote in a court filing on Friday.

Attorney General Jerry Brown, who is running for governor, filed a separate motion.

A lawyer for the city of San Francisco, which also joined the legal effort, said those supporting the ban had failed to show they would “suffer irreparable injury – or any injury at all” if gays were allowed to marry right away.

US District Judge Vaughn Walker ruled on Wednesday that California’s marriage ban violated equal protection guarantees of the US Constitution.

The ban was passed in a ballot referendum by a vote of 52% to 48% in 2008.

But the ruling did not immediately take effect because backers of the ban requested a stay of the judgement pending their appeal against it.

In their request for a stay, ban proponents argued that legal chaos would ensue if same-sex couples were allowed to marry but the ban were eventually upheld by a higher court.

On the docket for 2010 is Florida’s restrictions on the gay and lesbian marriage issue. In 2008 Florida voters voted uniamiously that a marriage is between a man and woman. I personally don’t see how allowing the homosexual community (meaning same sex couples. man/man woman/woman) to allow to be married. How will that destroy the meaning of marriage. It is my view marriage is not an institution, but a partnership. A verbal agreement that you will love and cherish the person you want to share your life with. I wouldn’t feel my marriage threatened by seeing two guys or women hold hands with wedding rings on their fingers. I wouldn’t be threatened by hearing a boy talk about how great his two fathers are, Or two mothers. Who cares they are two people who love each other. Also you cannot control if you’re attracted to the different sex or the same sex. This happens in nature, usually when the population of a species is growing faster than predators can kill them. So to say homosexuality is against nature, would be wrong to say. As for the God hates homosexuals thing? Prove it. One biblical scripture doesn’t cut it. Why? Because of Christianities utter ignorance of the Old Testament and what it meant in general. Show me in the New Testament where Jesus said to stone homosexuals. Show me what bible verse that actually credits Jesus for saying to Love your neighbor except if he is a muslim or a homosexual. You can’t because it doesn’t exist.

The traditional family is threatened only by divorce. Did you know it is more common for a child to be raised by a single parent than two parents? So how exactly does allowing same-sex marriage harm marriage and families? The straight community and secular society has already destroyed “traditional families”. I am married to a woman, because I love her and couldn’t think of a life without her. Do I feel a man and a man and a woman and a woman couples feel the same way about the one they fall in love with? Yes, I have seen very happy same-sex couples lead normal lives, with children.

Also, does anyone else feel like this issue is nothing but a red-herring? I mean right after Bush said Mission Complete, and questions were being asked. Didn’t anyone else find it odd that all of a sudden the same-sex marriage suddenly became a huge issue. Even though this isn’t something new? The homosexual community has been fighting for this for decades. I And honestly I feel that its unconstitutional not to allow same-sex marriage. Then later we became suprised to find out congress passed a law that allowed the government to tap any phone they pleased. That only stayed in the secular media for about two days.

Long time no see gang. I pass on a link, vaguely related: http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/08/09/frum.marriage/index.html?hpt=C2

    I quote:

Think for a minute: Why do people oppose same-sex marriage in the first place?

They do so because they fear that otherwise America’s young people will end up like … Bristol and Levi: having sex and raising children without regard to marriage.

Here for example is the National Organization for Marriage, a leading opponent of same-sex marriage. The group warns that if same-sex marriage comes to pass, “The law will teach your children and grandchildren that there is nothing special about mothers and fathers raising children together, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a bigot.”

There shouldn’t be anything overly special about moms and dads raising kids. Anyone with the right commitment level can do it, and give the kids involved all the necessary tools for a great life — from necessities like food, clothes and shelter, to the emotional necessities as well. A loved kid will be a happier kid overall. It won’t matter what kind of relationship the parents have if the kid is loved by all involved.

What’s worse than same-sex marriage, in my eyes, is this insane assumption that two people must stay together for the sake of a kid even if they can’t stand each other.

The man I just had a brief (but passionate) thing with has a boy nearing the age of two and his ex-gf is not a woman he’ll miss much. Sharing the little guy will probably work okay between them though, because it sounds like she’s just as committed as he is to making sure that kid isn’t screwed over by a brutal custody battle like the children of people they know.

Marriage is one of those things that should at some point become obsolete – at least the way we tend to define it. I think a willingness to be committed to another person is worth getting down on paper, of course. Saves trouble later when the commitment starts to lag a bit and eyes and hearts think of straying. Then again, if people didn’t make stuff so official, getting out of an unsatisfactory relationship before kids even happen would be a lot simpler.

And maybe some more effort could be put into promoting preventatives if people still want to have sex willy nilly…

    hi there, minion!
i say have every couple (straight or gay) have a mandatory trial marriage first, sort of like an immigrant’s ‘green card’ before they are given marriage certificates. maybe a two to five year waiting period and then give them official ‘married’ status if they choose to still marry. not a sure bet for eliminating divorces but i betcha divorce rates will go drastically down. but of course divorce lawyers will not like that proposition..

well put, e_e! a voice of good reason there.

hey guys. loooong time for me for sure. everyones still here 😛 except i dont see Kay on this post….

this sure is the echo of our country right now huh. we are so divided on this subject.

I nor anyone EE will ever find Jesus saying not to love anyone, but that doesnt mean its not sin. and really, unless you follow all of the Bible and really believe its Gods word and has power it doesnt matter if I quote scripture because ppl who dont love the Bible will find a way to say its crap anyhow. right? 😛 and so often we read what we believe rather than believe what we read. and religion is based on interpretation of sometimes just 1 scripture. and the context of whats meant is lost.

its sad that we cant see the importance of a mom *and* a dad. men and women are so different we have qualities that children NEED. will they be murderers if they dont have both? not likely. but for them to see God for who he really is, its vital. Papa God, Jesus and Holy Spirit all have roles like mom and dad. if you have no mom, or no dad, how will you be able to relate to God. Like, when we know God, we natually think he’s like our earthly father. and hes so not. and thats not all moms and dads have to offer. i have NO doubt children are loved just as much by 2 moms or 2 dads. but just loving a child is not giving them all they need.

ive been to 4 weddings already this month! its crazy! and 3 of them were weddings where the couples i personally know, waited for certain things until after they were married. sex being an obvious one. and the relationships mean more than just attraction. its a committment, a covenant like Jesus and his ppl. i hate saying the church even tho thats what we are coz “the church” as an organization / building is not what Jesus meant. anyhow, marriage is a representation of Jesus and us. the kind of love we display. thinking of the other person first. and you cant if your love stems from what they can do for you, and how they make you feel. (attraction shouldnt be the core of your passion for one another) its not about feeling. its about committing, hey, no matter what, i’m going to love you more than i love me.

i have way gone off more than i expected. hee heee.

Wyndee nice to hear from you. I use bible scripture to actually show the hypocracy between those that follow the bible to the letter as the word of God. They do like to only use scriptures that support their views, most ignore scriptures that do not support their views. So me using scriptures is just my way to get my point across to those against this subject.

Besides it happens a lot in the wild

well i suppose you can find hypocracy if thats what you are looking for… if Satan can twist Gods word, its obviously not that hard. but if you are looking for revelation, that you will find! and you could study till you’re blue, and never exhaust it! Even Jesus spoke in parables for a reason, so those who didn’t want to search, wouldn’t understand. personally, i read to understand whats beyond what I’m reading. I mean think about it, it accurately predicts the future. about 1 in 6 verses tells of future events, thousands dealing directly with prophecy, In the brief life of Jesus alone
there are over 300 prophecies fulfilled. The odds that all would be fulfilled in 1 man by accident are laughable. HA! 😛
“Any single verse of the Bible, taken in isolation, may actually be dangerous to your spiritual health. Every part of it must be read in relation to the whole passage.” – Louis Cassels
I believe The Bible is a supernatural book that can be understood
only by supernatural aid. The fact is, the supernatural is real, and there has been enough evidence in my own life that i know it 110% with all my being. and i have experienced. like the Bible says “you shall know the turth and the truth shall set you free” that word know is translated ‘experience’. 😀 and thats what i have done.
obviously it was written by people, but does that mean its crap? lots of wonderful things have been done by man.
anyways, its ok if i love it and you dont. 🙂 youre still cool 😉

Anonymous..I agree the Bible is a supernatural book. I do believe that the original authors wrote about what they saw, in dreams and visions. They wrote down what they saw and rationalized it to the thinking of the time. Which our understanding of how things work has taken great strides. I mean a lot of scientific theories are influenced by the bible. For instance the big bang theory and god speaking into existence. I would think it would look much the same. A great deal of force expanding in near infinite directions at a high rate of speed. Now if you didn’t know what you were seeing, ie you lived in the bronze age of man, you would probably describe it as Moses did. Now I never said it was crap. There’s a lot of truth in the bible if you look at the message. If you look at the messages you will then see what parts has been tampered with and what parts are just misunderstood. Words can be understood, but the message that is being portrayed is always clear if your mind is open to it….

Believe it or not, the Bible I have read (I assure you it’s almost the same. And its none of the King James Versions, because that wasn’t translated to bring the glory of God, but to please a man.I am speaking of the NIV.) really doesn’t say any man or woman should hate or make jugements based on a persons lifestyle. In Fact, it says repeatedly to love and respect other human beings. For we all are the children of God. I would love to discuss religion on the subject of marriage. I would think if many Jewish and unorthadox Jewish denominations accept same-sex marriages, to the point many denominations have Rabbi’s who happen to be homosexual and thier union is considered to be accepted by God. I would think that maybe the Christians of America should see it the same. Because the biggest threat to families is not same-sex marriages. It is single parent situations, not saying single parents can’t do thier job. Because my father did a fantastic job in raising me. Now what happened after I graduated high school was all my doing. My childhood wasn’t ideal, but at the same time it could have been a lot worse. I would think having two parents no matter the sex would be better for the development of children, rather than being in a single parent home during the first five years of a child’s life. I mean really any opposing viewpoint can be rebuttled in this case.

ah crap. sorry :O anonymous was me! heeeheheheheee. ima dork! i get in a hurry sometimes.
i dont have enough time to comment like I’d like. Its my boys first day of school. 🙂 LOTS to do! i am curious tho, you said you grew up w/Dad only… Hows your relationship with Holy Spirit?

also, if a couple were same sex, where would they even get children anyhow?

the other thing I wonder is, whats the fruit like in those congregations that promote homosexuality? Is there fruit? Do they have healings and the manifest presence and power of God? I dont even know how you would find that out. Really, this isnt the first I’ve heard of this, but it’s not like I know much about it. I try to keep up on whats coming at me that I can do something about and things I need to be praying about, but really my first priority is what only I can take care of. My husband, kids and such. Then the places God has given me favor I try to just be obedient and do what hes told me to. 🙂 I’m totally not perfect, no church or christian is obviously. haha. if they were really we wouldnt need 1/2 of the new testament or part of revelations 🙂
my friends live in Redding and go to Bethel church. they read a book about whats called treasure hunts. where they ask Holy Spirit who he wants to touch, get info about ppl. name, clothing, where they will be, what their need is… so on. and they go treasure hunting and find them and pray for them or give them God word!! Turning Redding upside down!!!! When my friend went one day she said a lady was so excited they “picked” her, she said she took the day off coz she heard they do treasure hunts on this day and she was healed in the store!!! HAHAA. we did it here in our city when they came to visit. it was rad! anyways every time we have gone down to Redding we get so stirred up and we see new things of Gods power. healings like crazy! I wanted to live there. haha. but now i just wanna see God pour out here like that. 🙂 OH i will! I could go on forever!
