Celebrities, baseball legends, relatives named as Bernard Madoff clients on list of thousands (The 162-page document filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan named Columbia University, legendary baseball player Sandy Koufax and Madoff’s attorney Ira Lee Sorkin as some of the clients.)
NEW YORK (AP) — Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax. Actor Kevin Bacon. World Trade Center developer Larry Silverstein. All three have at least one thing in common: Their names appear on a list of several thousand clients who lost money investing with Bernard Madoff. Tips lead to arrest of accused abductor
Christi and Bobby Baskin, abducted about 20 years ago by their grandparents and raised in California as Jennifer and Jonathan Bunting, may soon be reunited with their extended family after their maternal grandfather, Marvin Maple, was arrested Monday night after acquaintances alerted authorities to his whereabouts. Maple, who now goes by the name John Bunting, had told people he was wanted after news of the case was reported here on Jan. 12.
SAN DIEGO — A man who authorities say abducted two of his grandchildren from Tennessee almost 20 years ago was arrested Monday night in San Jose and the children have been found. Read the rest of this entry »

Estimates vary on the number of Iraqi civilians killed since 2003

An academic whose estimates of civilian deaths during the Iraq war sparked controversy has been criticised for not fully co-operating with an inquiry.
