Caveman, You Said What??

fed_rate_070918_msAs interest rates around the globe plummet, the Fed bluntly announced that it would print as much money as necessary to revive the frozen credit markets and fight what is shaping up as the nation’s worst economic downturn since World War II.

In effect, the Fed is stepping in as a substitute for banks and other lenders and acting more like a bank itself. “The Federal Reserve will employ all available tools to promote the resumption of sustainable economic growth,” it said. Those tools include buying “large quantities” of mortgage-related bonds, longer-term Treasury bonds, corporate debt and even consumer loans.  WHAT THE HELL?? FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — What do you do with an 8-year-old boy charged with two counts of premeditated murder?

Prosecutors and a defense lawyer in rural eastern Arizona are struggling to come up with an answer in the shocking case of a child accused of shooting his father and his father’s friend early last month. Outside experts fascinated with the case are just as perplexed.

Although Arizona law allows 8-year-olds to be found delinquent and to be charged as adults, experts say children at that age are far from fully formed mentally and most don’t understand the finality of death and the consequences of murder. Read the rest of this entry »

Judge denies Caylee’s mother access to evidence

Attorneys for the mother accused of killing Caylee Anthony will not have access to a site where investigators believe they have found the missing toddler’s remains, a judge ruled Tuesday.

The judge called the latest defense motions — which asked for a second autopsy and access to crime scene photos, video and sketches from the site — “pure folly.” Read the rest of this entry »

In a Bold Action, Fed Cuts Key Rate to Near Zero

1217-biz-web-fed025WASHINGTON — The Federal Reserve entered a new era on Tuesday, lowering its benchmark interest rate virtually to zero and declaring that it would now fight the recession by pumping out vast amounts of money to businesses and consumers through an expanding array of new lending programs.

Going further than expected, the central bank cut its target for the overnight federal funds rate to a range of zero to 0.25 percent and brought the United States to the zero-rate policies that Japan used for years in its own fight against deflation. Read the rest of this entry »

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A serial killer who died more than a decade ago is the person who decapitated the 6-year-old son of “America’s Most Wanted” host John Walsh in 1981, Florida police said Tuesday.
