First U.S. Face Transplant Described

n_face_transplant_051130300wCLEVELAND — Only the upper eyelids, forehead, lower lip and jaw are hers. The rest of her face comes from a cadaver.

In a 22-hour operation, surgeons have given nearly an entire new face to a woman with such severe facial damage she could not eat on her own or breathe without a hole in her windpipe, transplant doctors at the Cleveland Clinic said here on Wednesday. Read the rest of this entry »

Chrysler to Shut Factories for a Month

ogco_chrysler_0807DETROIT — Chrysler said Wednesday that it would close all its factories for at least one month, starting at the end of this week, in response to plunging vehicle sales in the United States.

The company said the plants would resume production no sooner than Jan. 19. Some plants will remain closed for several more weeks. Normally, the Detroit automakers close their factories for about two weeks at the end of the year. Read the rest of this entry »

Request to Remove Blagojevich Denied

GUESS WHAT???  The Illinois State Supreme Court Wednesday afternoon denied an emergency request from the state’s attorney general, Lisa Madigan, to consider removing besieged Gov. Rod R.
